EU report calls for ‘consistency checks’ on EU financial rules
The European Union should conduct annual “coherence and consistency” checks on its financial rules from next year to avoid crimping the flow of funds to the economy, a European Parliament draft report says.
The report, prepared for the assembly’s economic affairs committee and seen by Reuters on Tuesday, is the latest move by policymakers to review the impact of new banking rules rushed through since the 2007-09 financial crisis.
Banks have repeatedly called for a review, arguing that some rules have unintended consequences, such as squeezing liquidity in bond markets and making it overly expensive to lend to companies, arguments central bankers have largely rejected.

INNOCENT COUPLE INVESTIGATED FOR CHILD ABUSE AFTER SOCIAL WORKER MAKES BOGUS CPS CALLS
The Courier-Journal reports that Beth A. Bond, who worked for the state Cabinet for Health and Family Services, handling child abuse and neglect cases, called the CPS abuse hotline several times anonymously to report that her neighbors, Corey Chaney and April Rodgers, were abusing their child.
Bond knew that the CPS system allowed for anyone to anonymously call in cases of child abuse, and that parents would be investigated by police as a result.
She made six calls in total between April 1 and May 23, falsely alleging that the couple who lived above her were taking drugs, throwing their baby against the wall, and dangling the child over the balcony by one leg, among other accusations.
