FEARS OF TRUMP DRIVE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO BECOME CITIZENS

Ospina has spent almost half his life in the U.S. after emigrating from his native Colombia, becoming eligible for citizenship in 1990. But with Donald Trump becoming a more likely presidential nominee by the day, Ospina decided to wait no more, rushing the paperwork required to become a citizen.

“Trump is dividing us as a country,” said Ospina, owner of a small flooring and kitchen remodeling company. “He’s so negative about immigrants. We’ve got to speak up.”

Caitlyn Jenner softens her tone on Hillary Clinton

Caitlyn Jenner softened her tone on Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton after calling her a “f—ing liar.”

The star of E!’s “I Am Cait” revealed in a clip of Sunday’s upcoming episode that she met Clinton and posted a photo of her and friends posing with the former secretary of state with the caption “#learningfrommygirls #willingtolisten.”

In a previous episode, Jenner said she would vote for Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump over her.
“I would never, ever, ever vote for Hillary. We’re done if Hillary becomes president. The country is over,” Jenner said.
Jenner also clarified comments she recently made about Republican presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Trump in an interview with E! last week, saying she did not endorse either candidate.
Jenner, an activist for transgender issues, received a wave of backlash on social media this month for saying that she would like to serve as Cruz’s “trans ambassador” and for saying last week that Trump “would be very good for women’s issues.”

Obama Mama: Baby born on highway shut down for presidential motorcade

A man called 911 about 5:15 pm Thursday to report that his wife was in labor and that traffic was not moving, Louisville MetroSafe spokeswoman Jody Duncan said.

The rush-hour traffic was at a standstill moving because Interstate 65 had been shut down so that the presidential motorcade could travel from the airport to downtown Louisville. Stormy weather did not help matters, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported.

Thousands of motorists were stuck in the snarled traffic on both directions of the highway, as well as surface streets in the city, preventing emergency crews from getting to the laboring woman.

“They couldn’t get through due to the traffic from the motorcade,” Courtney Maloney, a Louisville MetroSafe EMS worker who responded to the call, told WAVE. “I pretty much had to ride the emergency lane all the way down.”

Early presidential voting off to good start in Athens

Early voting for Georgia’s March 1 presidential preference primaries got off to a strong start Monday in Athens-Clarke County.

By noon on the first day of early in-person voting — a number of Athens-Clarke voters already mailed in absentee ballots or sent ballots back from overseas before Monday — more than two dozen county voters came to the elections board office in downtown Athens to cast ballots, a number one elections office employee said was something of a surprise.

Among the people casting early ballots on Monday was Kenneth Dawson, who drove in from his home on Athens’ west side to vote in the Republican primary.

“I just felt I wanted to get it over with,” Dawson said, explaining that his desire to just get a ballot cast didn’t reflect any general disgust for the slate of GOP candidates. He was in a hurry to vote, he said, because he knew unequivocally who he wants to see as the Republican nominee in the presidential race.

“Donald Trump,” he said, adding, as if Trump were already in the Oval Office, “I think he’s going to be good for the country.”

“I’ve had my mind made up for a while,” Dawson said, adding he wasn’t at all concerned about the possibility that Trump would either be forced out of the race or might drop out before Georgia’s March 1 primary. Voters in New Hampshire head to the polls Tuesday to make their choices in the presidential race, and before March 1, when Georgia will be among a number of Southern states hosting primaries, Republican voters in South Carolina will make their choices in a Feb. 20 primary, and Nevada Republicans will caucus on Feb. 23 to make their decisions.

Netanyahu responds to Trump, says Israel ‘respects all religions’

AP_780283157247

Israel’s prime minister on Wednesday rejected Donald Trump’s recent statements about Muslims, saying Israel “respects all religions” as he faced calls to call off an upcoming visit by the Republican front-runner.

Benjamin Netanyahu issued his statement late Wednesday, hours after it was announced that Trump will be visiting Israel at the end of the month.

“The state of Israel respects all religions and strictly guarantees the rights of all its citizens,” the statement said. “At the same time, Israel is fighting against militant Islam that targets Muslims, Christians and Jews alike and threatens the entire world.”

U.S. presidential candidates debate whether to accept Syrian refugees

Democratic U.S. presidential candidate Clinton shares a laugh with Sanders at the conclusion of the second official 2016 U.S. Democratic presidential candidates debate in Des Moines

Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush broke with rivals on Tuesday by saying he would support some Syrian refugees coming into the United States but stressed the screening must be tough to ensure no Islamic State militants enter the country.

The deaths of 129 people in Paris on Friday in attacks for which Islamic State claimed responsibility have given both Democratic and Republican candidates an opening to debate what steps to take against militants whose reach into Europe from Syria and Iraq is a direct challenge to Western leaders.
