According to the GAO Report, FBI’s Facial Analysis, Comparison, and Evaluation (FACE) Services unit not only has access to FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) face recognition database of nearly 30 million civil and criminal mug shot photos, it also has access to the State Department’s Visa and Passport databases, the Defense Department’s biometric database, and the drivers license databases of at least 16 states. Totaling 411.9 million images, this is an unprecedented number of photographs, most of which are of Americans and foreigners who have committed no crimes.
The FBI has done little to make sure that its search results (which the Bureau calls “investigative leads”) do not include photos of innocent people, according to the report. The FBI has conducted only very limited testing to ensure the accuracy of NGI’s face recognition capabilities. And it has not taken any steps to determine whether the face recognition systems of its external partners—states and other federal agencies—are sufficiently accurate to prevent innocent people from being identified as criminal suspects. As we know from previous research, face recognition is notoriously inaccurate across the board and may also misidentify African Americans and ethnic minorities, young people, and women at higher rates than whites, older people, and men, respectively.

The contractors also say they avoided highlighting conservative outlets in favor of websites on a “preferred” list produced by Facebook.

Systems for accessing health care from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs do not “effectively oversee newly enrolled veterans’ access to primary care,” according to a new US Government Accountability Office (GAO) report.
The GAO found that VA scheduling practices often leave veterans seeking primary care from the VHA with weeks- to months-long waits for appointments with the medical agency.
“This report proves what we’ve long known: wait-time manipulation continues at VA and the department’s wait-time rhetoric doesn’t match up with the reality of veterans’ experiences,” said Rep. Jeff Miller (R) of Fla., the Veteran Affairs committee chairman, according to USA Today. “I am not at all surprised these problems persist,” he added.

“The recent ‘retrospective reports’ from the administration reveal that executive agencies have added more than $16 billion in regulatory costs, up from $14.7 billion in the previous update, and 6.5 million paperwork hours,” the report said.

Appearing on Fox & Friends, Cruz was asked whether he would engage in torture, enhanced interrogation, or waterboarding — methods which Republican frontrunner Donald Trump has emphatically championed, despite the practice being illegal and ineffective.
“America has never engaged in torture and we’re not about to,” Cruz responded.
In 2014, following the release of the Senate Select Committee for Intelligence’s torture report, Cruz spoke at the Heritage Foundation denouncing the practice, declaring that “America does not need torture to protect ourselves.”

Cruz won Texas with a margin of victory well below historical averages for Texan home state candidates and was dependent on evangelical voters in the Deep South to win delegates, but plurality of those voters chose Donald Trump instead on Super Tuesday.
So far, the Texas senator has only won 61% of the delegates he needs to stay on track for the nomination, far below Trump who is exceeding his target.
And unfortunately for Cruz, the next five primaries on March 15 hold far less potential for victories than the previous Southern states Cruz was counting on that Trump won.
