TRUMP TO PICK MIKE PENCE, SAYS SOURCE

Trump to Pick Mike Pence, Says Source

As Trump narrowed in on his choice of Pence, the two men spent time at both Trump’s golf resort in New Jersey in early July and at the Indiana governor’s mansion this week.

In addition to testing the men’s chemistry together, Trump was reportedly impressed with Pence’s calm demeanor, his experience on Capitol Hill and as a governor, and Pence’s potential to assist Trump in governing, should the ticket win in November.

The announcement will be made publicly at an event at Trump Tower at 11 a.m. Friday morning.

In addition to Pence, Trump has considered former speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Army Gen. Michael Flynn for the No. 2 spot on his ticket. Some contenders, including Sens. Bob Corker of Tennessee and Joni Ernst of Iowa, took themselves out of the running.

SOUTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR SIGNS BILL TO BAN ABORTIONS AFTER 20 WEEKS WHEN BABIES FEEL PAIN

On March 8, the South Carolina Senate passed the bill known as Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act by a strong majority, LifeNews reported. The state House, which is controlled by Republicans, approved the bill last week.

The bill has exceptions in cases where the mother’s life is in jeopardy and when doctors determine that the unborn baby has a fatal defect and cannot survive outside the womb, the report states. According to WSOC News 9, doctors who violate the legislation could face fines of up to $10,000 and up to three years in prison.

“South Carolina now joins thirteen other states in recognizing the humanity of the unborn child,” said Carol Tobias, National Right to Life president. “The smallest and most vulnerable members of our human family need our protection, and South Carolina has taken a vital step to save unborn children who are capable of feeling the excruciating pain of abortion.”

Maine Republican Governor Paul LePage  endorsed Donald Trump for president in February before the Maine primary caucus.

Cruz won the state with 12 delegates. Trump was second with 9 delegates followed by John Kasich with 2 delegates.

This week the Cruz campaign, like they’ve done is several states, are cheating and stealing delegates from Trump at the state convention.

McAuliffe restores voting rights for 206K ex-felons; GOP calls it move to boost Clinton

Gov. Terry McAuliffe signed an executive order Friday restoring the voting rights of 206,000 ex-felons, a sweeping action the governor said was aimed largely at rectifying Virginia’s “long and sad history” of suppressing African-American voting power.

The move, coming in a presidential election year, outraged Republicans who accused McAuliffe of abusing his power to help longtime ally Hillary Clinton win a battleground state by putting more likely Democratic voters on the books.

The governor’s order applies to all violent and nonviolent felons who had finished their sentence and supervised release as of Friday, even those who have not applied for a restoration of rights. Previous Virginia governors have restored rights on an individual basis, but none has done it for an entire category of offenders with one pen stroke.

TED CRUZ IS AN AMERICAN AND CAN APPEAR ON N.J. PRIMARY BALLOT, JUDGE SAYS

The more persuasive legal analysis is that such a child, born of a citizen-father, citizen-mother, or both, is indeed a ‘natural born citizen’ within the contemplation of the Constitution,” Administrative Law Judge Jeff Masin wrote.

A group of New Jersey residents and a Catholic University of America law professor insisted that Cruz, born in Canada to an American mother and a Cuban father, did not meet the constitutional requirements to be president.

The issue now goes to New Jersey Secretary of State Kim Guadagno, who will make a ruling that can be appealed in state court. Guadagno is also lieutenant governor.

Mississippi gov. signs religious freedom bill despite LGBT pressure

Defying the trend of Republican governors in other states, the governor of Mississippi has signed a law protecting people of conscience from being compelled to participate in same-sex ceremonies.

Gov. Phil Bryant signed the “Protecting Freedom of Conscience from Government Discrimination Act” (H.B. 1523) yesterday, saying that the government may not compel religious organizations or individuals who have a sincere objection to take part in any homosexual couple’s “wedding.”

“I am signing H.B. 1523 into law to protect sincerely held religious beliefs and moral convictions of individuals, organizations, and private associations from discriminatory actions from state government or its political subdivisions,” Gov. Bryant said in a statement released this afternoon.

For instance, the state must issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. However, individual state employees may ask for a recusal, provided someone else will do so and the “licensing of any legally valid marriage is not impeded or delayed.”

Gov. Bryant’s decision comes just one week after business and entertainment companies lobbied Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal to veto a similar bill. He ultimately hinted that the legislation did not align with the New Testament.

Indiana Governor Signs Bill Banning Abortions of Down Syndrome Babies

160324_Pence-1250x650

Every life has value. Every life is a gift.”

Carissa Carroll, a mother of a toddler with Down syndrome, told The Daily Signal she supports legislation in Indiana, signed Thursday by Republican Gov. Mike Pence, that put a statewide ban on aborting babies due to genetic causes like Down syndrome.

“Our son has changed our life for the better,” Caroll said. “Although we were shocked by the diagnosis of Down syndrome, we really are so thankful for who Jack is and how he has made us see our lives in a much more beautiful way.”

Indiana’s new law prevents a person from performing an abortion if he knows the pregnant woman wishes to abort the unborn baby because of a diagnosis of Down syndrome or any other disability. It also prevents abortions due to the race, color, national origin, ancestry, or sex of the child.

New York’s governor just called this bus ‘Ferrari-like,’ suggesting he has never seen a Ferrari

CdCn3nVW0AEyqia

New York governor Andrew Cuomo announced a bunch of upgrades for New York City’s bus system today (the state is responsible for the MTA, not the city), and it’s actually pretty cool: 2,042 new buses will be added to the fleet by 2020 at a cost of $1.3 billion, offering on-board Wi-Fi, charging ports, and an electronic signage pilot program with upcoming stop and weather information. Truly, these are the buses of the future, and the first ones will be on the streets of the city next month.

RUMORS SWIRL: FLORIDA GOVERNOR TO ENDORSE TRUMP?

trump-scotte

Following news of a last-minute Super Tuesday press conference at the candidate’s Mar-A-Lago Club in Florida, rumors are swirling that the state’s governor could be preparing to back the billionaire hotel mogul.

“Some speculate that Florida Gov. Rick Scott could announce his support of Trump at the press conference, which is scheduled two weeks before Florida’s Republican primary,” writes Gabby Morrongiello.

Although Governor Scott has yet to officially support any candidate, an endorsement of Trump would be a major embarrassment and blow to the campaign of Marco Rubio, who has held office in Florida for over 15 years.

KSU president says Gov. Bevin’s cuts could close school

Kentucky_State_University_jacksonhall

Kentucky State University President Raymond Burse says the governor’s proposed cuts could force the school to declare financial exigency or close.

Burse, in a letter he sent Monday to university stakeholders, said either or both of those options could be on the table because of the governor’s proposed funding cuts. At the start of the year, Burse said the university “was and is in crisis mode” and he noted that Gov. Matt Bevin’s budget plan for the university marked a “very significant financial change in how we go forward at Kentucky State University.”

Monday’s letter said he had been given more time to analyze in detail what Bevin had proposed, and while they understand the governor’s intentions, “his budget efforts as proposed will be detrimental to Kentucky State.”

It is not that we do not want to participate, cooperate and help advance the state, but we, KSU, do not have the resources available to meet the many current needs as we move forward to address correcting years of improper processes,
procedures and in some instances, yes, negligence, as to duties and responsibilities,” he wrote.
