Volvo Car Group will launch the all-new XC90 sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a new S90 sedan this year to capitalize on Korea’s rapidly growing premium vehicle market, the head of the company’s Asia-Pacific operations said Friday.

In a press conference, Volvo Car Group Asia-Pacific operations senior vice president Lars Danielson said the Swedish carmaker will work hard to solidify its high-end brand image further, stressing that Volvo vehicles offer “Swedish premium luxury.”

“We have set a very important objective, which is to sell 800,000 cars in 2018 across the globe,” Danielson said. “The Asia-Pacific region is where we are growing at an explosive pace. In particular, Korea is our key market. On top of increasing sales volumes, Korean consumers are very sensitive about new trends and quick to adopt new technologies.”

In 2015, Volvo Car Group sold 503,127 cars around the world, up 8 percent from the previous year. Of this total, the carmaker sold 4,238 in Korea, up 42.4 percent from 2014.
