A mom waiting to pick up her kids from a Maryland high school was shot and killed by her estranged husband, who also wounded a bystander before fleeing the scene, officials said.
Gunfire erupted just before 5 p.m. Thursday outside High Point High School in Beltsville, Md., a Washington, D.C. suburb.
Prince George’s County Police later said that the suspected gunman is Eulalio Tordil, a 62-year-old employee of Homeland Security’s Federal Protective Service, which provides services for federal buildings.
The wounded man, who is expected to survive, tried to intervene in an argument between the shooter and his former wife Gladys, 44, police said.
