The evidence has been clear for years. Fully employed Americans have been borrowing from payday lenders at egregious rates in order to pay for normal everyday living expenses, while a small group of executives grab as much as possible for themselves. Obama Calls on Sen. Paul to Drop Objections to Tax Treaties

President Barack Obama on Friday called on Sen. Rand Paul to drop his “quirky” objections to pending international tax treaties so they can move forward in Congress.

Obama said the treaties will help U.S. authorities investigate and crack down on offshore tax evasion.

Paul has argued that they would infringe on Americans’ constitutional right to privacy because their tax data and personal financial information would be shared with other countries. Treaties cannot go into force unless ratified by the Senate, and the objection of any one senator halts action on legislative business pending in that house of Congress, as Paul has done in this case.

“I’m calling on the Senate, in particular Sen. Rand Paul, who’s been a little quirky on this issue, to stop blocking the implementation of tax treaties that have been pending for years,” Obama said at the White House, while promoting new financial rules to force companies to disclose more information about their owners.

High-growth companies thriving outside London

Its 1,000 Companies To Inspire Britain report found firms are expanding at an average of 50 per cent a year, and that 78 per cent of the most rapidly growing firms are based outside the capital.

Scottish companies are fastest growing with 83 per cent annual average revenue growth, according to the analysis. Outside London, Greater Manchester is the top area as home to 36 companies with Leeds and Aberdeen next on 16 each.

Wales and Northern Ireland’s small and medium sized enterprises have grown by 25 since last year, according to the annual report.

Oil Giant Chevron Announces Big Job Cuts Amid Slump In Global Prices

 The third-quarter results reported Friday fell less than expected by investors and were aided by a 15 percent cut in capital spending.

Despite the drop in oil prices, Chevron’s CEO John Watson has said he would stick to plans to increase production by 20 percent by the end of 2017. Even with the current downturn, Watson said Chevron would continue paying dividends to its investors.
