The incident took place in the center of the small town of Sonderborg in southern Denmark at about 10 p.m. local time Wednesday. She told police that an English-speaking man knocked her to the ground, tried to unbutton her pants and undress her.
However, she was apparently able to protect herself as she pulled out pepper spray and used it against the man, who escaped the scene and hasn’t been charged.
Asylum seekers arriving in Denmark will now have to hand over cash exceeding 10,000 kroner (US$1,450) and any personal items valued at more than that amount. This is more than three times the 3,000 kroner ($435) that was originally proposed.
However, wedding rings and other sentimental items will be exempt from confiscation.
Integration Minister Inger Stojberg said the goal of the new legislation is for Denmark to become “significantly less attractive for asylum-seekers,” AFP reported.

Gjerskov has taken the entire situation in stride, however, laughing off the incident as ‘totally ludicrous’ in an interview with Ekstra Bladet.
In a post on her Facebook page following her first post’s removal, she added that it was ‘more than a little comical. The Little Mermaid is simply too undressed for Facebook. I can’t post my blog because TV2 has chosen the picture of the mermaid.’

Facebook has since changed its mind and re-added her post.

After the European Parliament passed a resolution Thursday urging states to drop criminal charges against former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden and offer him protection, two political parties in Denmark have stepped forward, the Local reported Friday. Danish Integration Minister Inger Støjberg could not have been more clear: her country will not be accepting any of the 160,000 Middle Eastern refugees currently in the European Union resettlement program.

In 2014, Denmark took in 15,000 asylum seekers, which according to Eurostat made the small country the 5th largest refuge per-capita in Europe.
