Hope Solo ‘wouldn’t go’ to Summer Olympics because of Zika virus as of now

One of the biggest names in Olympic women’s sports says the Zika virus outbreak throughout the Americas and the Caribbean has given her second thoughts about attending the Summer Games in Rio later this year.

“If I had to make the choice today, I wouldn’t go,” Hope Solo, the U.S. Women’s Soccer star goalkeeper told SI.com earlier this week.

The mosquito-borne virus causes symptoms such as rashes, fever and conjunctivitis, but scientists and researchers have also determined a link between the virus and a condition known as microcephaly — when babies are born with shrunken heads. The virus can also be transmitted via sexual activity and through blood transfusions.
