Engineering firm sues China City over unpaid fees

China City's proposed international college and cultural center has not received any municipal approvals since it was first proposed in 2013.

China City of America is being sued by another former client for unpaid fees. This time it’s an engineering firm asking for approximately $135,000, according to a verified complaint filed in Sullivan County State Supreme Court.

Keystone Associates, Architects, Engineers and Surveyors of Binghamton claims China City hasn’t paid its last invoice dated Aug. 18, 2014, for more than $35,000 with interest, according to the complaint filed Feb. 18. Keystone also asked for an additional $100,000 for “loss of profits from the suspension” of the retainer agreement it reached with China City in February 2013.

The complaint said Keystone ‘‘provided engineering, surveying and representation before the Town of Thompson Planning Board” for China City’s proposed international college and cultural center. The project, also called the Thompson Education Center, has not received any municipal approvals since it was first proposed in 2013.

Steven Kurlander, Keystone Associates’ Monticello-based attorney, declined to comment on when the retainer agreement between China City and Keystone Associates ended.

Oslo moves to ban cars from city centre

thebanonauto The Labour Party and its allies the Socialist Left and the Green Party, winners of the September 14 municipal elections in the Norwegian capital, presented a platform focused on the environment and the fight against climate change.

The programme envisages a ban on private vehicles in the centre which, according to the Verdans Gang newspaper, is home to only about 1,000 people but where some 90,000 work.

The new city government did not give details of how the plan would be implemented.

But the proposal has sparked concerns among local businessmen, who noted that 11 of the city’s 57 shopping centres are in the planned car-free zone.

The ban on automobiles is part of a plan to slash emissions of greenhouse gases by 50 percent by 2020 compared to 1990 levels.

The new city authorities also plan to divest fossil fuels from their pension funds, build more bicycle lanes, subsidise

City officials change mind, close radioactive park

635760412345675179-Still0824-00013 Mary Oscko has been at the park nearly every day for the past 29 years, however. She lives in a home that borders the park, about 100 yards from the contaminated soil.

Mary was recently diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. She is terminal and will be lucky to live two more years.

She believes the contamination caused her cancer because she would walk in the park every day for years.

For Mary, no one should be anywhere near the contamination until it’s gone.

“Let’s err on the side of being conservative,” said Oscko. “Let’s take no risk when our children are involved.”

She and a handful of other concerned citizens sought signatures from people living near the park over the weekend.

The signatures are part of a petition to close the park completely, until the remediation is complete.

The petition was turned in just after 1:30 p.m. a few hours after crews had already begun putting up fencing along the parks boundaries.

CITY LEASING CLINIC TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD FOR $1 PER YEAR

“We found out recently that the City of Austin was leasing a building to Planned Parenthood, an over 7,000 square foot facility, for one dollar a year for a 20-year lease,” said Johnson.

Finding the information in the minutes of a City of Austin City Council meeting from 2010, Johnson says she was shocked to see such preferential treatment for Planned Parenthood and not other services in the area.

“That made me want to go OK, well, I want to open up a pro-life center and go to the city and say, ‘Hey, look, I want that same deal that you gave Planned Parenthood,’” Johnson said. “They would never consider doing that for us, for a pro-life group, whose actually wanting to save babies.”

“If you want to kill them, if you want to harvest their parts, then the city will give you all the money that you want.”

Johnson’s comments follow several weeks of controversy for Planned Parenthood as undercover sting videosexpose the company’s involvement in the harvest and sale of body parts from aborted babies.
