Target is facing an increasing backlash over its policy allowing customers and employees to use whichever bathroom they choose, regardless of the gender listed on their birth certificates.

A pledge to boycott its stores, launched Wednesday by the American Family Association, received more than 690,000 signatures in almost a week.

“This means a man can simply say he ‘feels like a woman today’ and enter the women’s restroom… even if young girls or women are already in there,” a supporting statement on the website says. “Target’s policy is exactly how sexual predators get access to their victims.”

The AFA then highlights several news articles featuring alleged sexual predators dressing as women to enter female facilities.

Trump UK ban petition passes 370,000 signatures

The petition went on Parliament’s e-petition website on Tuesday.

It was posted in response to Mr Trump’s call for a temporary halt on Muslims entering the United States.

Chancellor George Osborne criticised Mr Trump’s comments but rejected calls for him to be banned from the UK.

A counter-petition, set up on Wednesday, saying Mr Trump should not be banned as it would be “totally illogical” has attracted more than 9,000 signatures.

Any petition with more than 100,000 signatures is automatically considered for debate in Parliament.

Mr Trump is seeking the Republican nomination for next year’s US presidential election.

He said on Wednesday he would never leave the 2016 race, despite the volume of calls for him to step aside.

On Wednesday morning the petition, which calls for Trump to be stopped from entering the country on the grounds of hate speech, was racking up more than 19,000 signatures an hour, according to parliament’s petitions website.

That puts it on course to pass 100,000 signatures in less than 24 hours, which would require parliament to consider debating the issue.

FAKE? PETITION FILED TO BAN OKTOBERFEST BECAUSE IT ‘OFFENDS MUSLIMS’

160915oktAnother possibility is that the petition, which is attributed to someone from the Netherlands called Morad Almuradi, was actually started by right-wing activists to try and smear Muslims as part of the backlash to Germany’s announcement that it would accept 800,000 migrants before the end of the year.

“I am signing this as a PROTEST against the Islamification of Germany by Muslims. They refuse to assimilate and integrate,” remarks one respondent to the petition.

PETITION TO LEGALISE CANNABIS IN BRITAIN GETS THE 100,000 SIGNATURES IT NEEDS FOR PARLIAMENT DEBATE

As of Saturday morning, 103,833 people had signed the e-petition on the Parliament website, passing the threshold required for it to consider the issue for a debate.

That doesn’t mean it definitely will be discussed by MPs, with the Parliament website stressing that it “may decide not to put a petition forward for debate if the issue has already been debated recently or there’s a debate scheduled for the near future”.

The petition followed the announcement earlier in the week by Durham Constabulary that the force would no prioritise cannabis users and small-scale growers in their own home.
