NEW STUDY: BT TOXINS 100% LETHAL TO AMPHIBIANS

SprayFrog

Dr. Eva Sirinathsinghii tested the effects of Introban®, a commercial formulation of a Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) subtype, Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis (Bti). She discovered that Introban® is toxic to tadpoles of an Argentinian species of frog at environmentally relevant concentrations. The Bti subtype is meant for mosquitoes, in order to prevent the spread of infectious disease.

After being exposed for only 48 hours to sub-lethal concentrations of Introban®, tadpoles of a common South American frog developed serious health problems that led to their death.

Genotoxic effects occurred in days, not weeks or months. Intestinal enzymes that would normally protect the tadpoles from oxidative stress were affected, and the results were 100% lethal. The tadpoles’ immune systems were rendered useless.

STUDY: 21 PER CENT OF SYRIANS SUPPORT ISIS

isis-12

Data journalist Max Galka collated a group of surveys conducted by Pew Research, Zogby, the Washington Institute, ORB International, CSIS, and ACRPS. The results were extremely disconcerting.

The figures show that a staggering 21 per cent of Syrians have a favorable view of ISIS. This means that as many as 4.6 million Syrian citizens, a portion of whom will be entering the west as refugees or have already done so, are sympathetic towards the goals of ISIS.

Study may have found evidence of alternate, parallel universes

635821611630626385-Planck-CMB-black-background An astrophysicist says he may have found evidence of alternate or parallel universes by looking back in time to just after the Big Bang more than 13 billion years ago.

While mapping the so-called “cosmic microwave background,” which is the light left over from the early universe, scientist Ranga-Ram Chary found what he called a mysterious glow, the International Business Times reported.

Chary, a researcher at the European Space Agency’s Planck Space Telescope data center at CalTech, said the glow could be due to matter from a neighboring universe “leaking” into ours, according to New Scientist magazine.

STUDY FINDS LINK BETWEEN AGENT ORANGE AND BLOOD CANCER

agentorange A recent study of 479 Vietnam veterans who were involved in Agent Orange defoliation efforts in that country found that these individuals are twice as likely to develop a blood condition known as monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance, or MGUS. The disorder is a precursor for multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer.

The study found that a little over 47 percent of Americans gave their police precinct a grade of D or F with states like Arkansas, Idaho, Missouri, Virginia, and Georgia exhibiting the most overall dissatisfaction.

37 percent of Americans gave their police department an F grade, with the national average being a D but grades of A relating the most overall satisfaction came from states like New Hampshire, North Dakota, West Virginia, Kansas, and Hawaii.

More than 19 percent of people, in states like Texas, Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan, and Oregon, gave their police departments a C or C-plus grade – and more than 19 percent of people gave police departments in states like Maine, Alabama, Oklahoma, Utah, and South Dakota a grade of B-minus, B, or B-plus.

13,000 become homeless every month in Los Angeles County, study says

Chronic homelessness is such a daunting problem in Los Angeles County that even after 10,000 people were moved into housing in the last three years, about 13,000 people on public assistance slip into homelessness every month, a new study has revealed.

The number of people who become chronically homeless overwhelms the dwindling supply of affordable housing, according to a report released today by the Economic Roundtable, a research organization based in Los Angeles.

“Ending chronic homelessness will be feasible if fewer people become homeless,” said Daniel Flaming, author of the report. “This requires the combined resources of health, mental health, social service, education, justice system and housing agencies to restore a place in the community for homeless individuals.”

The report, titled “All Alone,” said there is not enough help for children and young adults at risk of homelessness. It estimates that 42 percent of people who experience homelessness do not receive the help they need to become housed. Half of all homeless public assistance recipients are children. The report concludes that providing help for children and young adults is crucial “to reduce the feeder pipeline from childhood poverty and homelessness into adult chronic homelessness.”
